Electrical Engineering and automation major(Undergraduate major)

The Electrical Engineering and Automation major is designed to provide students with a sound fundamental education in all areas of electrical engineering. This major teaches students with fundamental knowledge in electrical engineering, including generation, transmission, conversion, control, storage and utilization of electric energy, power electronics and power system of smart mines. It offers a broad understanding of key principles in rapidly advancing fields like electromagnetic theory, energy conversion, electronics, communications, signal processing, information technology, control theory, computers and software engineering.


Cultivation Objectives:

Electrical Engineering and Automation major aims to train talents with both moral and practical abilities for the country. We promotes the comprehensive development of students’ moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetics, and labor education in accordance with the school motto of 'Cultivate Moral Integrity, Pursue Excellence in Learning and Practice'. This major meets the new needs of an innovative country and the great changes in the industry, and promotes the students' development of scientific spirit and humanistic qualities. The graduates have outstanding practical and innovative abilities, and can perform excellently in engineering design, system analysis, information processing, experimental analysis, research and development, and management in fields such as electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, automatic control, information energy, and computer applications. They are trained into broad, composite, and innovative talents with patriotic sentiments..


Curriculum:

In addition to technical complementary courses, students in the Electrical Engineering and Automation major take general complementary courses in social sciences, administrative studies, and humanities. These courses allow students to develop specific interests in areas such as psychology, economics, management, or political science. As an Electrical Engineering student, you can take some non-departmental courses like Advanced Mathematics, Physics, Linear Algebra, Complex Variables, and some electrical engineering courses like Electric Circuits, Electronic Devices and Circuit Theory, Digital Fundamentals, Electric and Magnetic fields, Signals and Systems, Power Electronics, Power System Analysis, Coal Mine Power Supply, Electric Machinery, automatic control, electric drive automatic control system, sensing and detection technology, computer technology, Theory of Machine Learning, and Brain-Inspired Artificial Intelligence. In addition to course learning, students also have ability training courses in experimental skills, computer simulation, engineering design, scientific research methods, innovation training programs for college students, graduation projects, production internships, and other areas.


Cultivation Characteristics:

Electrical Engineering and Automation Major in CUMTB is a characteristic major of the Ministry of Education and Beijing, and is a first-class specialty construction site in Beijing. It has a doctoral program of first-class discipline in electrical engineering, and a postdoctoral station of electrical engineering. Power electronics and power transmission are national key disciplines, and the Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Electrical engineering is the Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Beijing. It emphasizes the combination of electrical technology and electronic technology, the combination of software and hardware, the combination of components and systems. Focus on the cultivation of professional English ability, engineering ability and application ability. Rich experiments, practice, extracurricular training, competition activities for the cultivation of students' practical ability and innovation ability provides a strong guarantee. There are 27 full-time teachers and 22 theoretical teachers in this major. All of teachers under 45 years old have Ph.D degrees, which has formed a good teaching team with a professional title and educational background.


Employment and Further Study:

The students will be employed by research institutions, enterprises, and government departments in the field of electricity, engaged in related research, development, and technical management, as well as teaching and research work in higher education institutions. Due to their solid professional foundation and hands-on ability, they have received lots of praise from employers. In recent years, the proportion of undergraduate students continuing their studies has reached 55%, and many of them have gone to famous universities such as Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Xi'an Jiao Tong University for further studies.
